Many participants have asked us advice on where to go and what to do while they are in Brussels. For general information, please go to visit.brussels. We thought you might also enjoy taking a tour organized by “Bruxelles Bavard”. These are high quality tours focused on some popular aspects of the city, from architecture to history, food and comic strips. They are 1h30 to 2h30 walks (with many stops) in the area of the symposium hotel. We shall be happy to book these tours for you. If you are interested, please select your favorite options for Saturday September 9th pm or Sunday September 10th am. This will be an opportunity to meet other participants to the symposium in an informal way. Tours will be organized when a minimum of 8 participants are registered and will be charged 12 Euros per person. Please, indicate by ticking in the table below your first, second and third choice for the Saturday and/or the Sunday (options are labeled A to C for Saturday and D to H for Sunday). We will do our best to book your most favorite choice but this will depend on how popular it is among participants to the symposium. Registrations will be accepted till August 15th. A. 15h to 17h30 - Made in BrusselsBrussels is known all over the world as the Capital of Europe but it has many more, lesser-known attractions: an amazing variety of architectural styles including the internationally renowned Market Square and Art Nouveau districts, historic pubs ("cafés") where you can sample the glorious Belgian beers, famous chocolate makers, merry folklore and unchecked creativity in the fields of gastronomy, comic strips, fashion, not to mention the surreal language issue! From the former harbor downtown to the Royal district uptown, let us surprise you with this relaxed, 100% Brussels tour.
B. 15h to 17h30 - Lip-smacking Brussels
Economical.
Difficulty: a pleasure!
Ingredients: Brussels sprouts and endives, stoemp, mussels and sea snails, choesels and bloempanch, plattekeis (cheese) with ramonache (horseradish), lambic and gueuze, pralines and chocolate, pain à la grecque, waffles, Belgian fries, smoutebollen and carabitjes…
Preparation: Heat the ingredients in a history stock seasoned with a pinch of tradition and a zest of folklore, keep an eye on the cooking, season with a few salty anecdotes and taste. Yummm!
C. 16h to 17h30 - The "sacred island" (around the Grand’Place)
If you have limited time, let us show you the downtown highlights: the Grand’Place (Market Square) surrounded by medieval streets hiding cozy pubs, the Stock Exchange overlooking wide Boulevards reserved for pedestrians, Manneken Pis smiling at his flock of admirers, the chocolate flavored St Hubert shopping mall, the ancient port still dedicated to seafood.

Today, they still continue to haunt the city and several of its bars... let's follow the wake of their "rafts of memory" or their flying umbrellas to discover the intrepid approach they took to reality and art...
G. 9h to 11h30 - Brussels seen through comic strips
Discover comic murals and other representations of our comic strips heroes displayed throughout the city. Become acquainted with the authors, their works, their sources of inspiration, the leading comic strip "schools"... Brussels history is the invisible thread running through this unique art form.
H. 9h to 11h30 - Where the donkey leads to the Archangel (an alchemical lecture of the Grand'Place)
Approach the Grand’Place neighborhood as a sculptered grimoire, going through this fabulous book made of stones, page after page, rediscover its passed, interrogate the numerous signs that the craftmen corporations left behind, this will be our goal. An initiation to alchemistry and free masonry will allow us to identify the signs and will provide the keys to interpret them ... Intriguing!
